Mexico

Hola everyone,

I’m a mixed media textile artist living in Monterrey, Mexico.  In 2001 I was invited to join International Quilters of Monterrey Mexico (IQMM) in which I learned the basics of traditional quilting.  During the same time I also began taking oil painting classes.  I soon realized that painting came easier than quilting at this time.

Since I began painting, my art has been in a constant state of change, ever evolving. In 2010 I created my first art quilt as a challenge we had for our guild.  This was when I discovered my love of mixed media textile art quilts.  In 2016, I was invited to have a special exhibit of my quilts at the 8th Expo Patchwork & Quilt Show in Mexico City.

Much time is spent experimenting with new combinations of art material and techniques, but whatever I do, I always do from my heart. My art is the result of a long process; Every one of my artworks reflects and illustrates my life past and present, my family, my surroundings, the things and ideas that capture my imagination, my friends and the people I meet on a daily basis. I love to express the beauty, harmony and spirit of this world, my culture and my surroundings in my work and I am blessed to have such a loving and supportive husband that encourages me to create.

Hi Sonia. I just happened to see your website while I was searching for the Quilters here to find out when the luncheon will be held here in Monterrey in April. I wrote to you, but did not hear from you. Please let me know. Thanks, Carolyn Media
