Paola Zanda – Nature #3

The Moon

For the second nature couple, the theme will be the celestial bodies.

My series is related to tarot cards. The moon is card no. 18. The moon is linked to the measure of time, which I represent with the gears of the clocks.
The moon is cyclical, and the lunar phases are associated with the woman, represented by a girl in the growing phase, the full moon with a mature woman and an elderly woman with the waning moon.

The bottom is made with procion MX, the Moon is in appliqué, and painted with silver acrylic.

Freehand embroidery and quilting. I used sewing, embroidery and metallic threads.

A clever way of interpreting time with the cogs turning. Your stitching is so neat and precise, lovely work.

  2. studiociboulette

Stunning, I love the three faces in the moon and the quilting of the clock wheels is so clever. Magnifique!

  3. Chantal Guillermet

Such an interesting piece, despite its apparent simplicity. The economy of colour highlights the moon and the choice of representing the phases of the moon through the evolution of a woman’s face is excellent!

  4. joanbrailsford

A very intersting way to depict the phases of the moon and the passage of time. I like the way that your background is so thoughtfully rendered and allows the figures in the moon to take centre stage. Well done

  5. I really appreciate the use of a minimum colors in your work which really sparkles. Excellent execution of the theme and the background

  6. An interesting subject well illustrated. The stitching of the cogs is a great way to show time.

  7. Paola, that’s true you. Your are always is not only treat for the eyes but for the heart and soul too. Behind the plain colors and exquisite techniques always there is a deep meaning. Thank you, I am so happy to know you and your art.

  8. Such an interesting way to represent the passage of time in the lunar calendar with the different faces/phases of a woman. The stitching of the turning cogs is superb and the limited color palette is extremely suitable. Very special!!

  9. You have cleverly depicted the passage of time and the cogs are a nice choice. The muted color palette was a great decision.

  10. An interesting piece. I love your different moon faces. Beautiful stitching.

  11. So much symbolism in your interpretation of the moon card design. I liked the way you linked the moon phases with the stages of the girl’s maturity and the way you quilted gear designs brings it all together. Very cleaver, well done!

  12. Lovely how your stitching of the background is executed. Well done.

  13. Great interpretation and use of colour on how we see the moon at night. The face is a work of art. Bravo
