Cornflower
Inspiration: As a young girl we went to my grandparents in the summer. When we cycled along cornfields we saw a lot of cornflowers. Seeing cornflowers now they remind me of long, warm summers.
This third quilt of my letter-series with fieldflowers is “Cornflower”. The composition is more or less the same like “Sunflower” and “Poppy”. I stitched the outer line of the word cornflower on the strip Velours de Panne and painted it with silver fabric paint.
I spayed a piece of blue batik with starch and cut out several petals. The petals are only stitched in the center to create a 3-dimensional effect. I did the same with the leaves. At last I added some beads and sequins.

Love cornflowers and your stitched interpretation is just perfect!
As previously said, a just perfect interpretation. I love this colour combination.
I had a quick look at your previous pieces and all together they will make an interesting series.
I like the contrast in your different colour combinations.
Love the three-dimensional flower, the embellishments, and the blue color is so bright- just amazing. Reminds me about rye fields from my childhood in Lithuania where we didn’t grow corn at that time. Accordingly, we called this flower ryeflower in Lithuanian.
This reminds me of childhood summers as well! Used to see so many cornflowers and poppies. A beautiful rendition of the flower and the colour is so realistic! Well done!
Another beautiful addition to your flower series. Love the colours and the 3 dimensional effect of the flower leaves. Bravo.
This is such a lovely shade of blue and also reminds me of summers as a small child, running through the fields of grass and flowers. The fuzzy edge on the left adds a touch of whimsy. Nicely done.
My favourite colour is blue and you have truly captured the brilliant blue of the cornflowers and the felling of summer. I love the three dimensional effect of the flower. Beautiful
Love all the Different textures you use in your composition, I just want to touch them. Beautiful addition to your series. Bravo!
Love all the techniques to depict a flower of your childhood.
Another beautiful piece in your series Greetje. Really love the color and shape you used for your cornflower. And indeed, a great memory of summers long ago. Happily I see a comeback of these flowers around the fields here in Friesland, it is a joyful flower and so is your quilt.
What a splendid shade of blue. The flower is cleverly made and the details are great.
So beautifully detailed.I love the textures and composition. Bravo.
