Chantal Guillermet – Monochromatic : “Frost”
When the theme “Monochromatic” was revealed, it was the beginning of winter in my area. Because of the dull light, and the mist there was an economy of colours and a really monochromatic scenery. It gave me the idea to represent a scene from my garden with frosty leaves and flowers. I’ve chosen to work with shades of blue and a scale from white to dark grey.
The background is a piece of hand-dyed fabric, on which I’ve done monoprints with a piece of textured wall paper and acrylic paint. The flowers are drawn on the background with a freezer paper stencil, free motion quilted and painted with metallic fabric paint. To focus on the flowers I’ve framed them with paintsticks lines and hand quilting with silver thread.

Chantal—This piece is gorgeous. You have captured the essence of the flowers, and the paintstick work and paint really brings them to life.

Dear Chantal, the detail in your flowers is a credit to your talent. It is amazing how you can work with one colour and bring it to life. Cheers
