Chantal Guillermet – Monochromatic : “Frost”

When the theme “Monochromatic” was revealed, it was the beginning of winter in my area. Because of the dull light, and the mist there was an economy of colours and  a really monochromatic scenery.  It gave me the idea to represent a scene from my garden with frosty leaves and flowers.  I’ve chosen to work with shades of blue and a scale from white to dark grey.

The background is a piece of hand-dyed fabric, on which I’ve done monoprints with a piece of textured wall paper and acrylic paint.  The flowers are drawn on the background with a freezer paper stencil, free motion quilted and painted with metallic fabric paint.  To focus on the flowers I’ve framed them with paintsticks lines and hand quilting with silver thread.
