The Skeleton of Birch Tree

I started this year’s challenge by comparing two of my favorite trees: the aspen and the white birch. Originally I thought that they belonged to the same family but through this challenge I learned that they were two completely different trees.

I already studdied the barks and the wood grains and now I am looking into the leaves. As I already have the skeleton of aspen tree, here comes the skeleton of birch tree. The skeleton is machine embroidered on the piece of black Dupioni silk. I hand stitched it to highlight the edges and some stems of the leaf. The black background then was machine quilted.

Here are all 6 of my quilts. As we agreed to make three series of two quilt each, I also have two series of three quilts:

  1. A great collection of quilts and I love the leaves; the machine stitching is so neat and uniform. Great work well done.

  2. Wow this is a magnificent quilt, your attention to detail with your stitching is to be commended. The series is now complete, you must be so proud. Bravo

  3. Chantal Guillermet

This complete beautifully your series ! The hand stitches you have added on adges and stems are very effective !

  4. This leaf is also beautiful. Good thing to do some hand stitching as well.
I love the pattern you quilted in your background.

  5. This is awesome! Your attention to detail is quite obvious in your stitching. Placing the skeletal remains of the leave on black was a clever decision. Good work!

  6. This is a wonderful conclusion to your series. The stitching is wonderful as is the drama created by the contrast between the skeleton colour and the dark background. Lovely.

  7. I am in awe of your stitching. The simple design of gold outline on the black background is really effective to showcase the leaf structure. Beautifully done

  8. Stunning, fantastic. I can only use superlatives to comment on your work and series. Your stitching work is impressive. Super Bravo!

  9. Can only add superlatives, a beautiful series and this leaf is just as awesome as the previous one. The stitching is outstanding and the added hand stitching very effective. The gold on the black background makes for great drama. Wow!
