Complementary colors
My complementary colors are apple green and fuchsia.
I also used both colors in my abstract piece.
For this 3th quilt of my tulip-series I wanted to use several techniques from the former two.
The background is strip pieced like “abstract”.
I used tulle for the leaves. The leaves have more or less the same shape as in “black and white”.
For this tulip I made a new fabric using small pieces of different fabrics. It refers to the technique of my abstract tulips. This time I painted a piece of tyvec and cut small pieces of batik, velvet, transparent web, lace and glitter fabric. These fabric pieces are placed on the tyvec in the shapes of the tulip petals. I covered it with pink bridal tulle. I threadpainted the petals with rayon and other threads.
After the stitching I cut the petals and heated them with a heatgun. The tyvec didn’t shrink as much as I thought, but enough to give some relief to the petals.
The petals are placed 3-dimensional, like on “black and white”.

The way you have created the background and the tulip from strips of fabric is lovely and is very effective. I would not have thought if using Tyvek as a basis but the heat treatment once it is stitched really gives an extra effect and makes the tulip come alive.
