Sheryl Meech – Series #3 On the Coast Pohutukawa

Pohutukawa ia a coastal tree, I live 2 minutes from the beach and have a wonderful view of Kapiti Island, which I have depicted in this piece.  The san on the West Cost of the North Island is grey and in some places quite stony.

Techniques:  I have used Baby Muslin to show the breaking of the waves.  I also used this for the tree.  I painted this  with two greens and then used French knots to portray the flowers.

It is a nice and peaceful piece. I like how you used the baby Muslin for the brake of the waves. Your free motion quilting is very good.

  2. carolinehiggs

Once again you have managed to create wonderful effects with the added texture and I love the way that you have created the sea.

  3. Loving your series on this beautiful tree. I like your technique for the muslin, it must have been a delight to fashion the tree and the waves are great.. well done.

  4. joanbrailsford

Your textures and how you have created them are very effective. I like the contrasts that you have created with these, and the movement that this gives to your piece.

  5. A lovely picture of your beautiful country and this splendid tree. I like the varied textures and the mix of hand and machine work.

  6. I love the way how you made the braking waves and the texture you created in this quilt.

  7. Your tree is beautiful as well as your background. Especially how you did the water and the breaking waves.

  8. A beautiful depiction of this coastal tree. The muslin is quite effective as the splashing of water and tree, and the quilting is well done.
