Ann Turley – Nature #3

Chicken

This is Nature #3, On The Farm, where chickens run amok. They always seem to be pecking through the dirt, looking for seeds and food scraps. I’ve used a variety of black and white prints plus a sheer organza and a decorator fabric, all to give dimension and detail to this hen. The background was constructed from a jellyroll of fall fabrics. I organized them in in a roughly ground-to-sky order. I’ve kept the quilting simple, with straight lines in the ditch.

I like the way that the jellyroll fabrics in the background give the impression of the variety of surfaces that the chickens will peck around in. I love the way that you have ‘built’ your chicken with the black and whoite fabrics. A lovely job

  8. What a cute chicken! Me too, I love your fabrics for the chicken. And the lower background fabrics look like they are full of seeds, something for the chicken to be pecking for. Good job!

  9. I love this hen. The fabrics have been used so cleverly to create the feathers. The layered background is very effective.
