Greetje Hein – Nature #6

Autumn leaf

This 6th quilt of my Nature series is the “realistic” version of a leaf.

I took a picture of an autumn leaf and used gel medium to reproduce it on fabric. The background is partly strip-pieced with hand dyed fabrics. The other part is eco dyed fabric, covered with a yellow-green organza. At the left part of the picture I cut the background away.

The leaves are free motion quilted with different colors of rayon thread; the straight lines I did with rulers and variegated thread.

  1. Great use of eco-dyed fabric, love the way that you have added stitched leaves to complement the photographed leaf. Great work.

  2. I love the juxtaposition of your fabrics and colours. An eye catching design. Bravo

  3. This reminds me of a beautiful poinsettia and perfect for this time of the year. Great color choices, techniques and love the mirroring stitching of the flower shape. Lovely end to your series!

  4. Chantal Guillermet

It is a very effective composition and the use of the ecoprint fabric is perfect. I like the contrast between the real leaf and the ecoprinted ones.

  5. Love the composition and color placement. The quilt motif adds movement to your quilt. Nicely done.

  6. A beautiful composition. I like the way you have positioned the fabric leaf as a continuation of the photo. Great choice of colours and lovey stitched details.

  7. What great eco printed fabric you have created, and the addition of organza has given a feeling of depth and calm to the background. The leaves are beautifully worked and the quilt has a peaceful feeling. Great work

  8. I like the composition, the choice of colours and the mix between ecoprint and stitching. A nice result. Bravo!

  9. studiociboulette

I like how you integrate so many different techniques into your piece. Beautiful and precise. Beautiful details and quilting. And your echo of the flower petals in the quilted background. Bravo!

  10. I really like the combination of the leaf on the background with ecological coloring. Also, the color of the leaf stands out nicely against the light background. love very much

  11. So many things to love in this beautiful composition: the colors (as opposed to the black and white), the perfect stitching, the continuation of the ‘real’ leaf from the photograph behind it, the eco printed background.
A beautiful end to your series, bravo!

  12. I love the continuation of the partly strip pieced background as in your former piece. Lovely colors and design. The eco-printed background complements the gel medium leave beautiful. Bravo!

  13. To me your quilt is an example of perfection: the idea, the design, the use of colors and fabrics, the quilting. I especially love how the leaf itself is composed partialy of the photo and partialy of the print. Excellent!
