Els Mommers – Artist challenge #5
BLACK INSECT
This time I took my inspiration from the period where Miro combined abstract shapes with surrealistic fantasy. At that time he often worked with big black shapes.
The white background has been splashed with black acrylic paint and a toothbrush. All the shapes are fused, machine appliqued and finished with a cordon stitch. Some extra lines and stars are applied with a brush with black acrylic paint. Machine quilted in stars and spirals.
The whole process can be seen on: http://kunamola.blogspot.com

Absolutely stunning, the design is so eye catching and beautiful quilting. Bravo
Love it! Vibrant and so Miro; the change in stitch pattern has really brought the piece alive.
A wonderful addition to your series. I love this one!
This is my favourite one ! I like how you splashed black paint on the background ! it gives life to the whole piece !
As always- perfect! It looks to me like two very interesting creatures dancing among stars…
Lovely Els, just a beautiful Miro inspired quilt. Love your details, colors and quilting stitching. Beautiful!
We can see from whom you got the inspiration for the work. The colors and the background,I love the details and your quilting.
Another stunning addition to your series. I see two moving figures in this piece. The colors are beautiful and the quilting beautiful and eye-catching.
Lov’it!
Stunning indeed, Miro would be pleased, I guess!
Another very striking piece. I love the bright colours and the sense of movement.
Your quilt brought a big smile to my face, it is fun to examine. The details are wonderful.
Striking and well executed design once again. This could easily have been painted by Miro himself.
Very bold, expressive and unmistakably an Els/Miroesque composition. Love the continuation of the quilted spirals and stars. So much to see. Love it!
