Paulette Meldrum – Granny May’s Garden

Once again, I had many ideas and after making sketches and adding clippings from magazines and some photos to my sketch book, I decided to go back to my original idea of creating a garden using traditional English piecing.   All the fabrics are my own hand dyed fabrics created over the last few years with Procion MX dyes.   I quilted the background first then added the completed centre and the tiny “flowers” in the background.   The centres of the flowers were then embroidered and beaded.  The inspiration for this piece was from one of my grandmothers (who was English). She just loved her garden and taught me a great deal about gardening and flowers.   Her special favourites were dahlias and daisies.  The title was an obvious choice, “Granny May’s Garden”.
