Els Mommers – Nature #5

UNDER WATER: SEAHORSES

After the lava rocks and the rainforest, that our island is famous for, I wanted to add our underwater world. A couple of years ago I did already a series on fishes, so I now decided to make seahorses the subject.

The background is painted Wonder/Under fusible that I tore in strips and fused to a cotton background. For protection I covered it with acrylic wax. Some small, commercial fabric fishes, are added. The fan coral is stencilled on painted lutrador and cut out with a heatgun. More painted  lutrador coral is added.

Before I added the drawn seahorses, with are coloured with inktense pencils,  the whole piece is covered with organza, to give it some depth. They are fused and stitched on with monofilament thread. Tyvek rocks are added as is some painted seagrass. Finally some water bubbels are painted.

The whole process can be seen on: http://kunamola.blogspot.com
