Joan Brailsford – Time #3
Time and Trees: Autumn
The trees react as the seasons turn, and in the third in my series we have reached autumn. In the woodland, the leaves change to their rich oranges, yellows and browns, and fall to the ground to form a rich colourful carpet.
I have used a delicate yellow background that is overlaid with a commercial printed cotton, then transfer painted sheer fabric in gentle oranges. The trees are hand dyed cotton, and the carpet of leaves under the trees is made from small hexagons from a selection of commercial printed fabrics in autumn colours. Apart from the outline of tree trunks, all the other details are created by hand stitching – the branches and twigs, the texture of the woodland floor, the falling leaves, and of course the hexagons.
I hope that the whole scene conveys the quiet calm of a woodland scene as the trees continue their relentless journey of change.
