Lin Hsin-Chen – Motion – Moved

Is this me?
During a speech, one of the listeners hand painted my portrait.
What was the feeling that motivated her to draw?
Or, what did I say to inspire her?
From the eyes of others, and then through drawing, I see what I look like when delivering a speech.
It is so different from photography. I am so much moved!
Indeed, this is me!
I am thankful that except creating, I have some speaking opportunities in recent years.
Sharing my experience through speaking and interacting with audience enrich my creative vision.
I am glad to share this meaningful piece of work with you by the end of the year.

Materials: artist’s hand-dyed fabric, silk, Romanian thread, shell buttons, sequin, beads
Techniques: image transfer, hand appliquéd, hand quilted

  1. What can I say, I am impressed with your interpretation, I think we all need to think about this type of motion. Your background adds to the feeling of movement. Well done.

  2. Well done Lin ! it is a unique interpretation of the theme ! Il like the movement given by your quilting on the background

  3. Truly a unique interpretation of the theme, Lin, and well done! The background does indeed convey the other “motion” — but I also like how your position, hair and clothing convey animation as well. 🙂

  4. Thank you all for the positive comments! It is truly a relief to me because I was so worry about my interpretation. I hesitated if my idea of “motion” would be acceptable. I am glad that I finally plucked up courage to make the quilt. I am happy with the result and I really enjoy creating it.

  5. Lin, it is a lovely interpretation of motion, you have done it really well and I suspect that you were working outside your comfort zone, well done!

  6. It is a complete different interpretation of motion. This is the nice thing of these themes that everybody looks at it from a different angel. Very well done Lin.

  7. It is so nice you used the image and transferred it. Beautiful background with a lot of motion.

  8. I think that this is a very original and clever depiction of the theme. I like the way that you have used stitch, patterned fabrics and buttons and beads to give a feeling of motion and emotion to your theme

  9. What a nice piece and I love the story behind it. Motion can be found everywhere, and with this piece you explained your view on it. I don’t know you personally, but with every quilt and interpretation of a theme, you come a little closer.

  10. What a very personal piece. I love the sections with stitching, beads and buttons.
