White Birch Tree Bark
Aspen trees are very popular in the US and White Birch trees are very popular in Lithuania. Although aspen are somewhat similar in appearance to some species of birch, birch trees belong to an entirely different family of trees. Birch are famous for having bark that peels back like paper; aspen’s bark does not peel.
As I lived in both countries, this time I am focusing on white (or silver) birch tree bark. I tried to show how the bark peels off.
The background fabric I made last summer in a break down screen printing workshop with Leah Higgins in England. The inner side of peeling off bark is made of my own eco print.
I used hand stitching and free motion machine quilting to create texture.

I am always fascinated by the elegance of the birch trees. In my village, you encounter some groups of birch in little glades that create an idyllic view. I am always amazed and interested in your interpretations of the trees. Using 3D is very clever, and the reproduction of colours is successful.
