Helen Hazon – Architecture – Lotus Temple

My inspiration for this quilt was the Lotus Temple in New Delhi. Until early in 2016 I had never heard of this temple. I came upon pictures of it while researching before our trip to India in March and thought it was a wonderful building. Sadly we didn’t have time to see the temple while we were in New Delhi but it is high on my list of places to visit on our next trip.

I used an Old Gold Markal paint stick with three different stencils to produce the backbone of the design. I added appliqué then machine embroidery for detail and quilting for depth. The temple itself is a symmetrical structure and the gardens around it also have a symmetrical layout and this is reflected in the sections of my design.

The fabrics are all cotton while the threads are all rayon.
