Helen Hazon – Circles – Too Many Moons

For many years I have had occasional bad dreams about moons and planets – lots of large ones moving around the sky. Consequently I don’t like looking at the moon. When I heard the theme for this month’s challengeĀ I had the idea of “Too many moons”. Maybe making this will stop the dreams.

The background circles were pieced together, the quilt sandwich was madeĀ and machine embroidery was added. Then the moon sections were appliquĆ©d in place and moreĀ embroidery was added.

All fabrics and threads are cotton.

  1. I love it, it is bold and very eye catching, if seen from a distance it would draw you in. Well designed and executed.

  2. Helen this piece will definitely stop your bad dreams. It is wonderful. Beautiful design and colours. I love it.

  3. Before I read your story, I thought perhaps you were paying homage to Jupiter…or even Saturn with its rings. Very effective! The layering of the planets and rings is wonderful!

The universe, that was my first interpretation when I saw your quilt. I love the way you worked your dreams out, it definitely must have been a pleasure making this and I hope it keeps your bad dreams away.

  5. It is a beautiful quilt Helen ! well designed and good choice of colours. We feel attracted by these shapes !

  6. Definitely one of my favourites. The colours are dynamic. I just love the way the rings and moons interlink with each other. Great write up, it’s so nice to find out how the design developed.

  7. Helen, this piece is a wonderful interpretation of the theme. I love the way some of the layers float. The stitching and its accuracy add another layer of detail and I could see the universe as soon as your quilt came on the screen.

A beautiful and elegant interpretation of the theme. I love the movement in the design and the choice of fabrics, especially the one with the mini-moons. Hopefully this will let you have more peaceful dreams. The use of machine stitching really enhances the piece.

  9. Very dramatic and so looks like I imagine outer space to be. Beautifully stitch as well

  10. What a great design! I like the way you did the opposite circle in the lower right corner. It gives the right balance to your quilt. Good choice of the fabrics too.

A very striking design that is very beautifully worked. I love the colours you have used which allow the design to speak for itself and to show the stitching to full effect. I love this quilt
