Lin Hsin-Chen – Monoprint – Eyelash

I plant some sword ferns in my balcony. When wind blows, they are like polite people who keep nodding no matter what I say. They have been consistent good listeners. Sword ferns look like eyelashes, sometimes blink, sometimes close and sometimes open their eyes widely looking at me. They are considerate and comforting. I am so pleased to introduce my friends, the sword ferns, to you via the quilt.

Materials: cotton, ribbon
Techniques: mono printed, hand-stitched, hand appliquéd, hand quilted

  1. English quilter

Thank you for introducing me to the sword fern. The print shows their movement in the wind.

  2. 😉 We don’t see many ferns out here on the rather dry prairie…so it was a treat to see how you interpreted these for us. I also like the juxtaposition of the circles…such a different shape, but unifying somehow.

I had to look for the meaning of ‘sword ferns’, but when I found a photograph of them, I realized immediately, that you made a great print. I like the colours and the composition you used. And the comparison with eyelashes, I see the eyes in quilt….
