Inspiration a piece of fabric previously dyed and a quote from Ovid’s tree time in Metamorphoses.

This is when Jupiter was obliged to effectively restart the creation, “he restores rivers, gives grass to the earth, leaves to the trees and orders wounded woods to be great again”. This is an action which takes time and my interpretation shows it slowly happening. The cloth was coloured with earth pigments and had some vague prints which formed the tree shapes. The grey implied that all was not good before the trees and grass began to take on colour. 

The green at the bottom is the quotation written over and over alternating both the latin ( flumina,restituit da terrae gramina, frones/arboribus, laesaque imbet reuirescere silvas) and the English (quoted above) sentences. The river is showing and the grass regrowing, the trees and obviously are not healthy but the leaves a reappearing , they are all hand-stitched with threads I have dyed. It is once again on an old linen table napkin, another sign of bygone times.
