Artist: Piet Mondriaan-1
My artist series will be about Piet Mondriaan (1872-1944). Mondriaan is a Dutch painter who also lived partly in Holland and in Paris. During WO-II he went to New York, where he died in 1944. He started painting landscapes. Via impressionism and cubism he was one of the pioneers of abstract art. He was one of the members of “de Stijl”, a Dutch art-movement of painters and architects.
In his last period Piet Mondriaan used just primary colors with black lines, only horizontal and vertical. His last work “Victory Boogie Woogie” is very famous, but never finished. His style is also used by Yves Saint Laurent for his fashion dresses.
My series will be based on painting of his last period. Quilting lines will be important. All are a free interpretation of Mondriaans work. I will continue my series using “what if…..”
The first piece is more or less a copy of the painting. I used all different fabrics and each part is quilted it in a different motif. It is faced binded.

I really like the idea of different quilting motifs in each part, it gives a real animation and a nice texture to the surfaces.
It was my first choice of Artist but for her first period. You have found an excellent solution to give your vision. You have done accurate stitch work and well choice of colours and fabrics.

This is instantly recognizable at an interpretation of Piet Mondriaan and you have done a great job of it. His (and your) use of clear, bright colors always draws me in for a closer look.
Your interpretation of incorporating different quilting patterns in the different blocks blend in beautifully with Mondriaan’s style and yours, so clever and well executed!
