Maryte Collard – Artist style #3

The Sunset

My choice of the artist was Russian painter Arkhip Kuindzhi (1841- 1910), whose style was realism. I am not copying his works but only am following his style that had a focus on natural light effects.

My quilt #3 is based on a photo that one evening in the early spring I took through my living room window. The sky was beautifully red and the light was reflecting from a few windows of the dark building.

For the sky I used my own hand dyed fabric. The building and tree trunks were cut out from commercial black fabric and fused onto background with Wonder Under. The small branches were machine embroidered and everything was machine quilted.

  1. Beautiful dramattic lighting perfectly executed in fabrics, great job!
