This piece is inspired by my environment. I  live on a small island that is surrounded by the blue Caribbean sea and has a beautiful rain- and cloud-forest. The thick lines resemble the  tree roots you see in the rainforest. I pieced free form cut handdyed and commercial batik greens together and used the blue and turquoise colors of the sea as well in these roots.  When I had put these lines on the quilt using  needleturned appliqué I felt that something was missing and indeed it was the sun. So I added some lines in “gold” fabric. The quilted lines are the waves in the sea and the rippling of the water.
