Chantal Guillermet – Series #3 : Wallflowers : Gone with the wind …

Inspiration : It is a romantic composition about the passing of time and what is left of memories and family secrets : a diary, old letters, lace and linen from another time.

Material : Vintage hand dyed linen and lace, vintage monogram, silk, metallic fabric paint, commercial stencil and acrylic paint, silk thread and hand dyed coton perlé.

Technique : I started by layering and sewing my fabric in place and did the stencilling. This time I did not fuse them because I wanted to do more handstitching and I wanted the quilt to stay soft. The different fabrics are linked with the lace and the monogram piece is appliqued with a tiny buttonhole stitch. The flowers are cut out from silk and embellished with metallic paint. They are fused on the background and free motion quilted. They are floating in the air, moving in the wind …

The flower branch : I have used the same design than in the previous quilt, as a reminder. It is free motion quilted and coloured with inktense pencils. For the hand quilting I have used the fold of the fabric and the line left by the dye on the fabric as a pattern.

The quilt is faced.

Quilt 1                                Quilt 2                             Quilt 3

  1. Chantal, the series is charming, and this quilt captures your memories. The transfer of colours across the series brings everything into perspective. The techniques you have used suit this months theme. Bravo

  2. English quilter

This is a beautiful, delicate piece, evocative of times gone by. I loved the title. Your stitching and use of colour is masterful.

  3. Another beautiful work, Chantal. I have been enjoying seeing your series and I especially love the subtle colors of your works. Very delicate and charming!

  4. This piece is also beautiful, Chantal. You created a very nice serie so far. Keep on going!

  5. Another lovely interpretation of your theme/series. I particularly like the use of text underneath the scattering of flowers; it’s very evocative and nostalgic. 🙂

  6. carolinehiggs

This is, as always, beautifully made and slides well in to your series, I really like the continuation of the colour through all your pieces.

  7. joanbrailsford

This is a lovely piece which truly compliments the other quilts in your series. I love the way you have incorporated the nostalgic elements, and the scattered flowers do let us imagine the passing of time.

  8. A third lovely quilt in your series. The colours are so gentle and restful and the design matches your title beautifully.

  9. A lovely quilt especially the text and the beautiful hand quilting that follows the lines created on the dyed fabric

  10. I love the cohesion of your serie. Color and design are again wonderful as is the hand quilting.
    Wonderful job.

  11. This piece has a very nostalgic feel of days gone by. The layering of the “memories”, stitching and all the fine details is quite lovely and the continuation of the colors makes it flow together nicely.
