WOMAN and BIRD
After his “Constellations series” Miro started making work based on the combined themes of women, bird, and star. That is what inspired me for this third piece.
Miro used all kind of materials for his backgrounds. That’s why I started treating white cotton with vinegar, rusted nails etc. and some rusting powder. When it was dry I sprayed the fabric with white and gold marbelizing Krylon spray.
I wanted to use the eye which is a repeating theme in his work, for the head of the female figure.
Woman, bird and other characteristic symbols are fused and finished with a cordon stitch. More symbols and stars are machine embroidered. The quilting is mostly echo-quilting. The work is finished with a facing.

Another great textile Miro! And great colour palette.
Miro is recognizable at first glance although the choice of colour is not his !
But I like this brown and beige harmony and the way you have treated the background !
I love it! it is so recognisable as Miro’s style and your colour palette works really well. Great work.
I really admire the materials you use to do your job. As always lots of embroidery and wonderful colors. Love it and also the subject.
I love your Miro, The details in the background is so effective and the playfulness of the piece is incredible. Beautiful!
As always your work is just wonderful. So much to see and so much to read between the lines (I mean symbols). And all is presented in perfect techniques. My bravo goes to you, Else.
Fabulous design and use of monochromatic colours. bravo
Another beautifully executed and complex textile Miro offering many details. Your beige/brown colour palette for the background is interesting and quite different from his, thereby making it your own. Bravo!
Miro used also this brown palette added with a little color. This is a great interpretation of this kind of paintings he made. Just like him you used the eye in an other way. Again a lot of techniques, so this is a real “Els”.
Interesting use of color, everything is beautifully done and very recognizable as influenced by Miro. I am fascinated by your use of rust.
As always, so many techniques and so much detail. There is so much to look at here. I think the bird is my favourite part!
Definitley the style of Miro and your use of ‘rusted’ colours works perfectly for this piece. I love the energy of the motifs and your stitching really brings them to life. Beautiful
So much detail and so much to see! Love all the techniques on how you created the background and your appliqués. A very clever and unique composition and a beautiful addition to your series. Well done!
