Maryte Collard – Nature #3

Wood grain

This year I feel like I am caught in a trap of my own choice. Still I decided to focus my attention on trees, but to look at them from a different perspective. In the first series I made two quilts with two different barks. In the second series I want to see what hides under the bark.

Here I present a longitudinal cut of wood that exposes the grain. Some trees have really spectacular wood grains but this is the longitudinal cut of aspen tree wood that is rather simple. I used a photo that I found on the internet to get an idea for my quilt. I used rust dyed cotton fabric and densely stitched it by hand with various cotton yarns.

  1. Simplicity is sometimes the way to interpret many features of nature, I cannot wait to see what else you find under the bark.
