Greetje Hein – Decay

It was so beautiful

A few weeks ago I came home from a weekend away. My beautiful bouquet of flowers was completely withered. Immediately I had my idea for “Decay”.

The table is made with an old technique we introduced again at our latest fair. First the pattern is stitched, after this I treated the surface with a layer of fabric-stiffener, acrylic paint and patina. Now it looks like wood. The wall is stitched with a brick pattern. This fabric has faded colors. I used these colors to place the flowers. The vase is stitched with rulers in a circular pattern and appliqued on the background.

I used batik fabric for the stems, leaves and flowers. All is stitched free-motion on the background.

  7. Fading flowers, a great interpretation of the theme decay. Love the way you made the different structures in your piece, and the way you put your flowers on it.

  8. An excellent illustration of Decay and beautifully made.

  9. A beautiful piece Greetje. I love the colours and the 3D flowers. The way you treated the fabric for the table is very effective. Your vase is beautiful and the little white touch on it gives it depth.

I love your composition and how you have handled each element separately to give them all a distinct texture. The wood is very realistic and contrasts perfectly with the delicate fading flowers. A lovely interpretation of the subject
