Greetje Hein – Decay
It was so beautiful
A few weeks ago I came home from a weekend away. My beautiful bouquet of flowers was completely withered. Immediately I had my idea for “Decay”.
The table is made with an old technique we introduced again at our latest fair. First the pattern is stitched, after this I treated the surface with a layer of fabric-stiffener, acrylic paint and patina. Now it looks like wood. The wall is stitched with a brick pattern. This fabric has faded colors. I used these colors to place the flowers. The vase is stitched with rulers in a circular pattern and appliqued on the background.
I used batik fabric for the stems, leaves and flowers. All is stitched free-motion on the background.

I love your composition and how you have handled each element separately to give them all a distinct texture. The wood is very realistic and contrasts perfectly with the delicate fading flowers. A lovely interpretation of the subject
