Paulette Meldrum – Progress – The Next Step

The Next Step – Starting with While

My progress with the group has very much been step my step – from a background of mainly traditional quilts and a few pictorial quilts using commercial fabrics, to adapting to designing a quilt to a theme which was initially very challenging.  I also concentrated on using fabric I had dyed, screen printed or stencilled, with a variety of techniques for embellishment. For the theme Progress, I decided to entirely paint a quilt, a new process for me, starting with a sheet of white paper for the design stage, white cotton fabric and fabric paints.  The design was transferred to the fabric with fabric pencils.  The visual effect of having an outside border was created with an adhesive quilting tape before painting.
