Eke Krug – Series – Song about a rose – Abstract
How to translate a rose in an abstract art-quilt, that’s the challenge for the second piece of the series. Thinking about how to do that, I decide to put a piece of transfer paper on top of my rose quilt and follow some interesting lines. Plus some lines that make the two pieces compare to each other. When ready I started the making process.
To start I take the same white fabric that I used for the first piece and put my line drawing on top of it. Now I have to decide in which way I will work it out. Cutting up the paper seems to be the best way to do it. For my complementary colours, I start with red and oranges. I have different pieces of synthetic organza that will do for this abstract piece. And so I start cutting my drawing up, piece by piece and cut the different organza’s and put them in place with vliesofix. First thing I did, was to create big layers of colour, overlapping each other partly. In that way the diversity of colour will be bigger and it is possible to make many gradations of colour out of three colours organza.
Once all pieces are in place, I start sewing, trying to do the thread painting I used in the first piece. First I made the black lines and put the black tulle pieces in place. Then the shapes, referring to the rose were filled with thread. And after that I decided to use lines for the rest of the piece.
It was fun to do and I like the result. Maybe good to do some more abstract work….
Techniques: thread painting
Materials: cotton for the front and backside, bamboo batting, several colours of organza, black tulle, cotton machine threads in many colours

Hei Kaylene, Thank you for your comment. Hope you are doing well and are recovering as it should be. Greetings Eke!
What an excellent result, I really like the way that you have chosen your shapes and colours.
I like it. You were able to find a magnificent abstract design, the choice of colours and the technique used, create an amazing result.
Your abstract rose is a success ! I really like how you got your colours with the layers of organza and get contrast with the black lines . Very nice piece
Wow, I love the way you have created this abstract image. I too like using layers of organza and you have really made it work in this piece, and your thread painting finishes it off beautifully. This reminds me of Charles Rennie Macintosh, one of my favourite designers. well done
This really is a wonderful abstract piece Eke. The different layers of the organza with their subtle colours work very nicely in this rose. The strong black lines reinforce the design.
The quilting is very effective.
Your piece is stunning. I love the way you quilted it. Bravo!
Wauw, this is a beautiful piece! I love the colors and how you created this. Well done!
You have created. Wonderful range of colors by layering the sheer fabric to create new shades. The piece looks like an abstracted rose. Thank you for the detailed explanation of your techniques.
What a well thought out design. The thread painting and the layers of organza created a lovely result and the black lines makes everything pop. Well done Eke.
