Chantal Guillermet – Time are Changing

Through all the ideas coming to my mind about Time, I finally decided to show how Time goes by, and how past and present are linked.

The background is pieced with the traditional Rail fence blocks, using hand dyed fabrics from blue, pink orange and yellow and showing the colors of the sky during the day.

Several watches were stenciled with acrylic paint to show how fast Time goes … too fast leaving us sometimes with regrets : that’s why I’ve embroidered a short extract of Leonard Cohen poem : “My time”.

As a witness of Times past I’ve made a mini quilt from an antique block bought in a flea market and attached it with some quilting on the main quilt.

As I wanted to add some text to my quilt, I’ve selected small sentences about Time, in English and in French,  and wrote them with free motion quilting.

  1. beautiful work Chantal. I love the addition of the small mini antique quilt.

  2. I like this very much, Chantal. As a Canadian, born and raised in Quebec, living many years in Montreal (home of Mr. Cohen)…it touches my heart. Merci bien!

Thanks Margaret for your comment … Leonard Cohen has been a close friend for me for such a long time, I could make several quilts for all of his songs …

  3. What a beautiful quilt. I love the fabrics you have chosen, I love the clock images, the words, and the mini quilt. Well done.

  4. Chantal, this is very innovative and creative with how you have depicted time passing. Well done
