Bozena Wojtaszek – S
Strawberry
For the letters theme this year I decided to go with illuminated initials for food products. This is a perfect combination of my love for medieval art and food art. And S is for strawberry.
Medieval art in general is my constant source of inspiration. Through the years I managed to create quite a lot of art quilts with medieval themes. Now it is a great opportunity to focus on medieval art in the margins of beautiful manuscripts.
Technically I use here all of my favorite techniques – applique, beading, embroidery, hand and machine quilting. I also dyed the background fabric for the “old papirus” effect and painted some extra gold spots just like the medieval monks did.

It’s an excellent following of your kitchen theme. Curiously, we have had a hint from medieval art. I love the finesse of the strawberry and your embroidery.
I waited to see what you would come up with and I am not disappointed! It sure looks like a page of manuscript, your caught it perfectly!
Middle Ages are my favourite period in History. The choice of illuminated letters is a very good one and your strawberry and embroidery stitches are beautiful.
What a great choice of subject! Beautifully stitched with your usual attention to detail. I really like this.
I have to agree with everyone, a wonderful choice of technique and tradition.

This is a beautiful piece, with the process well-explained. I love the little touches of handwork you have added, as well as the gold dots.Very nice!
Waht a great idea for the letter series. I also love Medieval manuscripts and artwork and you have represented this beautifully. I like the care you have taken in your choice of fabric and colouring to hint at old paper, and the additionl of the strawberry gives it a lovely focal point. Well done.
Beautiful details and stitching, beads and choice of natural tones. I love it.
What a nice subject and good to see you didn’t leave the food/kitchen direction… The work of the monks in the Middle Ages intrigues me and I love to look at all the little details you used to make your S quilt, well done!
I love this quilt. The idea of illuminated letters is great and your techniques have replicated it so well.
A good composition. I love all the beads and embroidery.
Well thought out design and choice of fabrics. It’s a perfect continuation from your kitchen theme to your new theme. Love all the details!
