P – Pyramid: Ixmoja of the Nohoch Mul group In Coba
Inspiration: Ixmoja is the highest pyramid in the ancient Mayan city of Coba on the Yucatan Peninsula.
Coba is an ancient Mayan city on the Yucatan Peninsula, located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, near Cancun. Coba is one of the few archeological sites in Mexico where you are still allowed to climb up the pyramid. The highest pyramid at Coba is Ixmoja, at about 138feet/42 meters in height. It is a dizzying 112 steps to the top, and is the highest pyramid in northern Yucatan. The site is less famous than Chichén Itzá and the ruins that are spread out in the jungle less preserved, but the climb up the Ixmoja pyramid of the Nohoch Mul group, sure is an adventure. It’s name means large hill or great mound. The site is the nexus of the largest network of stone stelae ( free standing carved stone slabs with legible historical data) that document ceremonial life and important events of the Late Classic Period (AD 600-900)
Technique: Hand dyed fabrics, photo printing on fabric, raw edge appliqué, inktense pencils, confetti technique, free motion machine quilting.

Thank you for the introduction to COBA. I was not familiar with it. You have done a great job of integrating the photo transfer into the piece. The sun behind the pyramid is a lovely touch and the large leaves give the feeling of the pyramid peeking out of the jungle.
