Bella Kaplan – Time #3

This is my third  challenge. No longer a girl. I’ve returned to the black and white that I prefer and I hope to continue with it until the end. To be honest, if I could, I would change the topic because I feel its enough  but of course I will continue until the end.
Cotton fabric, fused, machine quilted.
  1. You have chosen a difficult subject but your choice of photos for your portraits is very effective.

In this one you have very well transcribed the espiegle side in the eyes and the smile !

  2. I like the use of black and white but my vision gets lost around the nose and lips. Well done.

  3. Successful use of the small flowered fabrics. I think the face comes out nicely.
I hope you continue your series – it is very fascinating and will in the end make a very nice whole.

  4. Your choice of fabrics is not what I would choose but it works very well. Thank you for the lesson! As you already have one portrait made in color I would suggest you make at least one or even two more to keep your series whole.

Your choice of black and white reflects the old style of photographs and the fabrics you choose work well. I’m sure you will find a way to extend your series to your own liking. I look forward to seeing your next piece

Excellent choice of fabric for your black and white. I admire your technique on your beautiful portrait. Great attention to details and stitching. Truly beautiful. Bravo!

A difficult and demanding subject choice but the results a worth it! I like this one and despite the fine details in the close up I like looking at it from a distance. Great work.

  8. A lovely portrait and a great continuation of your series. It’s amazing how the prints in the fabrics “disappear” when the quilt is viewed from a distance and just create textures and shading. Very clever.

  9. It’ s incredible how you get such a beautiful result using those different floral prints. The clothing does get a little lost against the background, but all in all it’s another gorgeous portrait.

  10. I agree, this is a difficult subject, but your dedication shines through. I like that you have returned to your preferred black and white color palette, it really shows your artistic voice. Well done.

  11. I love all your black and white portraits and am always amazed how those small prints can be used so effectively. Your smile and the twinkle in the eyes are lovely in this one. Just a lovely portrait, keep at it!

  12. Great use of black and white fabrics. I, too am drawn to portraits in B & W because detail and highlights become so important. You have done an impressive job in using scale and proportion with your fabrics.
