Sonia Ruiz – Nature #3
Inspiration: Spring in Mexico
In the spring the beautiful Jacaranda trees are blooming in Mexico. Their bluish-purple flowers grace the streets and gardens in the cooler climates throughout the country. The Jacaranda tree was a gift from a Japanese immigrant, Tatsugoro Matsumoto, an imperial gardener from Tokyo, who was one of the first Japanese immigrants to arrive in Mexico, in 1896. When Matsumoto arrived in Mexico City, he began designing and caring for the gardens of elegant residences. He was more than a gardener, he was a landscape architect. Matsumoto never returned to Japan. He stayed and worked in Mexico City until 1955, the year he died at 94 years of age.

Lovely work, you have managed to create a real feeling of perspective with your background and machine lines. The shadow and fallen petals work so well. I really like this, well done.
A stunning representation of this fantastic tree. The background colours and the quilting highlight it well with the proper depth. It is fascinating. Bravo!
I love all the details and texture you add to your quilts, it makes them come alive. What a beautiful quilt. Felicidades!
I am always attracted to purple even if it is a difficult colour to wear !
You have achieved a very good balance by choosing this pale yellow – complementary colour – for the background.
Beautiful piece !
I love the way you have depicted the tree and the confetti technique for building up the foliage. The colours and textures and beautiful. Well done
Mexico received a beautiful gift from the Japanese immigrant. The tree is very impressive and the execution of the quilt is wonderful. I really like your hand embroidery
I love this quilt. Your colours and techniques have created a beautiful tree. I wish we could have jacarandas here but it’s too cold.
Beautiful piece of art derived from the beautiful nature. I love the contrasting colors of the background and tree blossoms and the texture of them.
A lovely rendition of the beautiful jacaranda tree. The confetti technique lends itself very well for this theme. The background colors are perfect and make the tree stand out, love the hand stitched and beady details.
This is a lovely interpretation of a jacaranda. You can almost feel the cool breeze passing below the branches. I like the interesting way you have depicted the shadow beneath the tree.
I have been enjoying the jacarandas finally blooming around San Diego. You made a lovely depiction of a (usually) spring favorite, and I’m glad to learn the history!
Love your use of complementary colors. Yellow for the field against the beautiful purple jacaranta tree. The confetti technique is the perfect technique for this tree. The use of small beads in the tree and for the flowers at the bottom is a very nice addition to this beautiful quilt. Bravo.
The confetti technique is one of my favorite techniques, especially for trees. I love the quilting of the tree trunk.
Great interpretation through design and technique. Bravo
