Maryte Collard – Nature #4

My second series of the nature is about woodgrain of the two kinds of trees that I chose to examine: aspen tree and white birch tree. Here I present a transversal cut of wood that exposes the grain of white birch tree.

I used a photo that I found on the internet to get an idea for my quilt. I used rust dyed cotton fabric and densely stitched it by hand with various cotton yarns. The background is machine quilted.

  1. This works so well. The way that you have used the different stitching and thread colour is so effective, brilliant!

  2. Wonderful interpretation, the use of colours brings out the subtle grain and nature of the tree.

The choice of colors and embroidery stitches gives a perfect representation of the tree trunk. The contrast between the machine quilting of the background and the hand embroidery creates an effective 3d effect.

  4. I really like your work and admire the hand stitching.A combination of different types of stitching and an excellent color combination. The background also makes the piece stand out.

  5. With the rust dyed fabric and your dense and meticulous hand stitching, you have captured the grain structure and texture of the white birch tree. I like how the machine quilting is like a continuation of invisible tree rings. Well done!

  6. Such a lot of hand stitching that gives the rust dyed fabric a wonderful texture that completely captures the grain of the wood perfectly. Well done

  7. I love this! The stitching is so dense and really does look like the tree rings. Colours are gentle and natural making the work very peaceful.

  8. Beautiful dense stitching in colors that are very effective. It’s great to see how stitching can provide texture and such a true representation of the wood structure. The gentle colored background makes the wood pop.

  9. This is an intriguing piece, the attention to detail is stunning. Your handwork is dense, perfect for this tree.

  10. I like how you created the transverse structure of the trunk. The intensity and different types of stitching combined with the rust dye work great and show off the wood grain perfectly. I love it.
I look forward to seeing the next one.

  11. The rust dyed fabric is so effective for this structure. Your meticulous stitching brings out the texture in a wonderful way and your choice of colours and thickness of the yarn just adds to it. Very well done.

  12. I love the different stitches you used. It gives beautifull structure to your quilt. The choise of the colours is perfect! Bravo.
