Kaylene Maalste – Book #5
Inspiration has again come the book “The Creative Process”, this time it is a conversation between Christian Zervos and Picasso. To paraphrase Picasso talks about how we deny ourselves the pleasure of putting something that we like in our work simply because it does not go well with the rest of the work.
I found this a fascinating concept and interpreted it as “juxtaposition” where there is a constating effect in the composition. So I have placed different shapes in black and white patterns against a red roundish shape. Materials are 100% cotton and embroidery thread.

The red shape really cathes the eye and scattered letters make eyes to move around trying to read the hidden word. Well done!
I agree with Picasso that we put elements aside because they contrast with the whole of our work; in fact, we are under pressure to do so.
I like you have illustrate this concept in your composition.
You have inserted an element of contrast but you have been able to create a harmony by playing on the shapes and the writings that incorporate and report the red round shape. Well found and executed. Bravo!
I really like the thought behind this piece and the way that your lettering ties the piece together. Well done.
I like your way of thinking and the use of minimalism color. The red color dominates the work.
The red shape was a wise choice as it gives the eye both a place to rest and a place to begin.
The different shapes placed side by side create an interesting effect of comparison and the red shape creates the contrast. Well thought out composition and very clever. Well done.
I like the way that the word travels around the work and the contrast of the red shape on the black and white is a great idea
I love this piece with black and white fabrics and just one red shape. So nice how you placed the word “justaposition”.
The use of color is very effective. They eye goes for the red immediately but we need to know what is written there so you make us travel around the piece in order to do just that. Fun!
What an interesting idea. The red certainly catches the attention but there is so much more to see in this piece.
Beautiful quilt. I love the concept and your interpretation is very clever. I find your play on black and white fantastic and the red directs the eye. Beautiful!
Love the contrast in color and shape. Apart from the red shape, the rhytm of the lettering immediately draws your attention.
Interesting concept to ponder and great interpretation.
