Kaylene Maalste – Book #3

Inspiration for Book #3 is from The Creative Process edited by Brewster Ghiselin. This book details how some of the world’s outstanding men and women how they begin and complete creative work. I chose Stephen Spender and how memory prompted a poem. Spender used the fragments of the following poem …..Knowledge of a full sun, That runs up his big sky, above, The hill, then in those trees and throws, His smiling on the turf. in later poems.

Material commercial cotton, embroidery thread raw appliqued.

The sunlight on the trees and foliage is very clever, and in fact the fabrics and colours throughout are very well chosen. I like the way that you have included the words to reflect the rolling scenery. Well done

  8. Wonderful choice of fabrics, love the sunlight on that beautiful tree. Rolling hills in a very harmonious piece of work. Wonderful.

  9. I love how the words are integrated into the landscape. Very nice!

  10. As my dad used to always say “Recordar es vivir” and as Stephen Spencer said, “memory is the ability to relive experiences”. Lovely interpretation and composition. Well done.

  11. A very peaceful and serene landscape. I like how the fabric placement shows the sunlight brightening some parts of the trees.

  12. A minimalist design with a choice of harmonious and delicate colours that give a sense of peace to the landscape. Well done!
