Helen Hazon – P
P for Primroses
I am continuing with the theme of my garden as it changes through the seasons. This month there is lots of new growth so many shades of fresh green. We have a lot more flowers, all are small but still beautiful and giving little spots of colour among the green. There are also the darker evergreens and patches of bare soil.
My chosen flowers are primroses – Primula vulgaris. These are delicate little yellow flowers with a bright orange blotch at the base of each petal. I don’t know how widespread they are outside western Europe but here they are welcomed each year as a sign that Spring has really arrived.
In this quilt I have used a confetti background again with primroses painted onto brown fabric showing them appearing on the bare winter soil. I have added machine quilting throughout and machine stitching on leaves and flowers for detail and emphasis.
All fabrics are cotton with nylon net. Threads are cotton for piecing and quilting, rayon for embroidery.
