Genevieve Guadalupe – Decay #3

Blooming Spring

Continuing with the concept of decaying flora through the seasons, we are now in full Spring. The trees are blooming their beautiful pastel flowers and the budding leaves are of a fresh green. But you can still find dried leaves decomposing from last season blending in the renewed life. Oh, what a refreshing sight!

Materials and technique: repurposed cotton fabrics, tea bags, real leaves preserved, printmaking ink, cotton batting, poly thread, embroidery floss, cheese cloth. Dry point and block printing, preserving of leaves, machine pieced, machine quilted, hand embroidery.

A great sense of the old and new. The muted colour palette of the new really brings out the sense of the decay in the old. Great work.

  3. I like how you have transitioned into Spring with the soft background colours, but also a reminder with the brown leaves that nature still decays her elements.

  4. A light and airy composition showcasing the transition of your beautiful fall leaves of decay to the soft pastel colors of spring. Love your signature meticulous machine quilting, hand stitching and innovative techniques. Bravo!

I like the choice of delicate background fabrics that hint at the soft light of spring and the promise of new life. These are the perfect way to emphasise the dry leaves that are left over from the previous year. Beautiful work

  9. I really like the contrast between the soft pastel colors and the dried leaves. Your meticulous stitching enriches the beautiful composition.

  10. Lovely soft background colours really suggest the arrival of Spring. I like the leaf shapes and the texture from the quilting. Lovely.

  11. The lovely pastel colors of the background herald the spring, whereas the brown leaves remind us of the autumn of the previous year and the decay that goes with that season. The quilting is exquisite as always.

  12. Beautiful and full of hope work, the colors bring the feeling of refreshment, great work!

  13. Lovely, delicate colors. Really spring.
