Bella Kaplan – Decay #1

I must admit that the subject was not easy   for me. But since for the past year I have lived in a war atmosphere, when all the beauty that surrounds my residential area was burned, I decided that my first work would touch on the fire, which consumed the forests in the Galilee. The entire area changed its colour and we are waiting for the positive change that will happen hope soon.

The background is eco print. The leaves are made of fabric that has undergone a rust process with black splashes, and touches of black fabric with reduced colour to express the fire.

 Cotton fabric, machine quilted.

  5. A powerful piece of a difficult subject. The colours are very well chosen. The rust process for the leaves is very effective. Great composition. Love it.

  6. A moving interpretation, composition and story showing the challenging situations and the potential of positive change. Well done.

  7. A striking design and a clever use of the eco and rust dyed fabrics. Hopefully the trees are starting to grow back.

  8. I love your choice of fabrics for leaves, they truly reflect on your story. I would love to see the continuation of it but unfortunately it would not represent the decay. Good job, Bella!

  9. It is an interesting effect you have achieved for the decayed leaves. The quilting motif, especially in the upper left corner, greatly add to the visual interest of your quilt.

  10. A very effective illustration of burned leaves. The colours and fabrics are so good and the stitching adds depth and detail.
