VINTAGE BUICK GRILLE

Vintage Buick Grille Detail
I am fascinated by vintage automoblies, especially those that are pre-1960. They were large and “in your face”, a status symbol of sorts and well as a mode of transportation. The grilles were quite prominent, making the cars very indentifiable as they approached. As they aged and rust began to appear, the cars developed a new type of character. Rust has a mind of its own, adding new detail as it develops. The grille on this car began to shows its age in the area behind the chrome and well as other areas. I have used hand-dyed fabrics for most of the body of the car and a stretch metalic print for the chrome. Detailing was done with charcoal and pastels. (I learned from this project that pastels aren’t a good choice because I couldn’t get it to set/seal properly.) Machine quilted.
I love your fabric choices for this quilt. Including of lace really adds to the representation of decay. Wee done!
Your fabric choices work well and the stretch fabric grill gives dimension to the piece. Great work!
This is an interesting approach to “decay”!
Love how you have made a whole piece of art out of a detail of a car.
You have chosen nice colors for your work!
The use of the lace for the grid is very clever ! Your blue hand dyed fabric is beautiful and works very well with your subject.
Fabulous choice of fabrics, and the attention to detail is wonderful. I love the way you have portrayed the fading elegance and strength of the old car. Beautiful work
I have seen many of your car quilts and admired them all. This is no exception. Great choice of colors for this part of the Buick’s grille. Beautiful details, great work.
Fabulous choice and a great interpretation, when I first saw it I thought of ploughed paddocks and was pleasantly surprise. Great choice of fabric.
A very striking piece. I like the apparent simplicity of the design and I particularly like the use of the knitted lace behind the grille.
The choice of fabrics is excellent and the lace blends in perfectly, as does the blue background.
I love the colours and the concept. Great attention to details. Bravo!
I really love the fabrics you used. The lace is so effective! Wauw.
At first sight it looks like an abstract painting. So nice to find out it was a grille. Beautiful choice of of fabrics especcially the stretch metalic print.
Well done.
I too love older cars. What a cleaver idea to use lace, it works very well. Great use of color and fabrics. Well done.
Ineresting study of decayed detail, well done!
