Ann Turley – Book #3

The Fish Footman

Continuing with minor characters from this popular children’s book, I chosen to illustrate the Fish Footman from chapter six. He is ordered to presean invitation to play croquet from the Queen to the Duchess. This piece will pair up with Book #4 to demonstrate action. (It will make sense when Book #4 is published.) The quilt is made from batiks, commercial prints, hand-dyed fabrics, crystal organza, cheesecloth, a small button and paper. I created a “skin” from gel medium and tissue paper, where I placed the lettering (“an Invitation”). It was transferred to very loosely woven cheesecloth and was stitched it to the composition.
