Greetje Hein – Time #1
Sundial
For the 2026 series with the theme “Time,” I have chosen to make six quilts featuring an object that can be used to tell the time of day.
All quilts will be made with denim fabric on a light blue background. I also want to make use of the details of old jeans.
The first subject is a sundial. A sundial was placed on a south-facing wall and has a freestanding needle. The sun shines on the flat surface. The position of the sun causes the shadow of the needle to move. This shadow of the needle indicates what time it is.
Stones have been applied to the light blue background to form a wall. The sundial is part of the back of a denim jacket. The needle is the end of a denim cord. The numbers are embroidered with orange pearl cotton.

Very interesting take on the subject. And the idea of using old denims for the background adds another layer of passing time. Well done!
Good choice of subject and fabric should be an interesting series! Great stitching, lovely work.
Very interesting choice of fabrics and use the details from old jeans. As time passes from past to peresent your work gives future to the jeans. Lovely!
It will be interesting to discover the different objects you will chose for each of your quilts.
I like the use of old jeans, it will unify the series nicely.
A very good idea to reuse denim.
I had to look many times before I realized that the wall is not a real wall – which means you have done a well-executed job.
Looking forward to seeing what objects you choose for the series.
I love sundials, I am always so impressed at how accurate they are. I love that you are working with denim for this project. Beautiful attention to details. Bravo!
Fantastic reuse of denim jeans. The sun dial is a fascinating subject from it’s origins to the present day. Great idea look forward to the next object.
Very interesting what objects you will use next in the series. The choice of subject is very interesting and the use of jeans adds another dimension of time and color.
Love your choice of subject. Looking forward to the rest of your series. The use of old denim jeans for all pieces is very clever. Good idea to use the complementary orange for the numbers.
This perfectly captures the concept of time, both in the literal sense of the sundial and the history held within the worn, faded jeans. The orange hand embroidery really makes the details pop. Wonderful work.
