Greetje Hein – Time #1

Sundial

For the 2026 series with the theme “Time,” I have chosen to make six quilts featuring an object that can be used to tell the time of day.

All quilts will be made with denim fabric on a light blue background. I also want to make use of the details of old jeans.

The first subject is a sundial. A sundial was placed on a south-facing wall and has a freestanding needle. The sun shines on the flat surface. The position of the sun causes the shadow of the needle to move. This shadow of the needle indicates what time it is.

Stones have been applied to the light blue background to form a wall. The sundial is part of the back of a denim jacket. The needle is the end of a denim cord. The numbers are embroidered with orange pearl cotton.

  1. Very interesting take on the subject. And the idea of using old denims for the background adds another layer of passing time. Well done!

  2. Good choice of subject and fabric should be an interesting series! Great stitching, lovely work.
