Chantal Guillermet – Time #2
Aline 1872 – 1964
This second quilt in the “Time” series is dedicated to my great-grandmother. She was originally from Nancy (East of France), where her family owned a glass factory.
She met Etienne (Time #1) while on vacation in Brittany, painting watercolors on the beach… a romantic encounter followed by a love match.
I knew her when she was very old, and I remember her as an elderly lady who always dressed in black. While clearing out my parents’ house, I found a box of old lace that had belonged to her. I used some of it in my quilt.
I also have an adorable little pink and white cut crystal carafe that came from her home. I made a colograph plate based on one of my photos to print fabric and incorporate it into the quilt.
Hence the choice of pink and black for this piece.
To make this quilt, I also used lace prints on the gelli plate and fragments of hand dyed old linen sheets.
The quilt is free-motion quilted.

Your quilt is very subtle, I love the choice of pink and black colors. You are lucky to have treasures from your female ancestors. Very well done, Chantal.
Beautiful colors and fabrics. I love the lace work, very reminiscent of that era. Great attention to details and beautiful stitching. Bravo!
Another great tribute to your ancestors beautifully executed, love it!
What a treasure to find old lace! You have used it so beautifully in your piece. I like the colors and I can really sense your great grandmother in this piece.
Love the old carafe and how it comes into its own in this piece.
I really like the family theme you chose and how you incorporated accessories and inspiration from existing things that were used for the theme.
What a beautiful tribute to your great grandmother. The colours and antique lace are lovely and the glass carafe is a delightful detail.
Great use of precious memories to create this piece. Nice work.
I love the use of lace in both the printing and as it is incorporated into the quilt. This is a very evocative piece and beautifully worked
