Caro Higgs – Time #2

Pebbled beach

Time by William Shakespeare is the starting point for this piece.

Continuing the idea of using citations/quotes I have again returned to poetry, the words of the first four lines of Time spoke to me. I like the idea of my work being related to nature and with the nearest beach being of pebbles this is very apt, the movement of the tides is ephemeral, there one second gone the other.

I used pigment coloured linen, hand stitched the lines of poetry before adding fabric paint and then appliquéing the commercial pebbled fabric, (hidden in my stash) at the base. The warning buoys were added to give more interest to the piece .

  1. Excellent fabric choice for this quilt. I also love how you stitched the poem in the waves of the ocean. Well done!

Beautiful movement of the water that caries the words of the poem. I love the pebble fabric. Great attention to details and quilting. Bravo!

  3. Love the mood of this piece, poetic lines embroidered on the ocean really say a lot about time, well done!

  4. I find this piece very interesting in its “simplicity”.
The combination of commercial fabric and hand colored linen works very well.
    Very beautiful embroidery.

  5. I love the embroidery on the painted linen, it gives a poetic mood the whole piece.

  6. I especially love the words on the work. Very beautiful in the body of the work. And also the part with the pebbles. A delicate and touching work.

  7. The fabrics used have created a very atmospheric beach and the embroidered words add to the feeling of movement in the waves. Great colour choices.

You have incorporated the words of the poem beautifully and the poem itself is very apt. I like the movement that there is in the sea, and the contrast this makes with the more solid pebbles. Great work
