Challenge – Decay #6
The year is coming to the end so does our challenge of Decay. We are posting the last works, Decay #6, and concluding this theme. I have to say that it was unexpectedly interesting and covered many issues of nature, material world and human life. Also brought us to the realization that decay is not only an end but also a beginning of something new, it is a development, it is a step ahead to the future.

The work continues to cover the chosen and varied aspects in a thought provoking and sensitive way, and I for one, am exploring the work that has been produced, and we hope that you will too. Challenge – Decay #4
We are presenting the #4 quilts in our Decay series. By developing the chosen theme each artist shows that decay visibly demonstrates the impact of time on objects and structures.
We hope looking at the quilts will help you find beauty in the imperfections and irregularities that arise from decay. The intricate patterns and unique forms created by decomposition can be seen as aesthetically compelling aspects of the natural world.

Challenge – Decay #2
Before making this post I explored how decay has been shown in art over time. Artists have always been drawn to the look and meaning of things falling apart. In the Renaissance, painters used ruins to show nature’s power. Later, during the Romantic period and into the 20th century, art and photography focused on aging bodies, worn-out carpets, rotting fruit, and abandoned buildings.
I’m excited to share Decay #2, where our group captures the breakdown of nature, buildings, fabrics, everyday objects, and even emotions.

Challenge – Decay #1
This year our challenge will be to use ‘Decay’ as our theme to create our quilts. At first this may seem a little daunting and dull, but on consideration you will see that there are so many things which could fit into this theme – think about fallen leaves, spoiled fruit, fungi, old buildings, rust, aged photos, and so much more. As you look around and think more deeply you will discover that the range of options is huge. These are the first quilts based on this theme and I’m sure you’ll agree that the pieces are intriguing, and that the rest of the year will be fascinating.
