Susan Hill – Seasons – Cardinal, bird of all seasons
Many species of birds make their home in central North Carolina, where I live. I delight in hearing and seeing them as they swoop, dart, and from time to time perch, to sing. While some are seasonal, there’s one – the Northern Cardinal – that lives here year round. In this piece I picture him (the male, with his bright plumage) presiding over his kingdom in winter, spring, summer, and fall, which I suggest by using several variegated threads. I’ve named the piece “Cardinal, bird of all seasons.”
