The Ants by Jane Tenorio Coscarelli

For my fourth challenge I’ve chosen the book The Ants.  This book is not like her other books, it’s a bilingual counting book that is in English and Spanish and has numbers from one to ten.  There is no recipe but It does include a pattern and instructions for an ant/number quilt.

I continued the use of black thread to give the feel of an illustration.  For the background I used the red plaid to give the feel of a picnic with ants.  The center is a miniature of Jane’s Ant/number quilt pattern. I used raw edge appliqué, paper piecing and hand embroidery for the ants trail.  The butterfly, this month, is representing our dear Jane on her third heavenly anniversary.
