Greetje Hein – Nature #4

Nature #4 – “Tree in full bloom-modern”

For this fourth piece of the Nature series I also took a tree in full bloom, but this time it is a modern version.

For the background I used a hand dyed fabric.

The tree is done with “improv piecing”. This technique is used more and more with modern quilting. I did a random shape and cut it later into the tree-shape. The tree is free-motion quilted with a shadow version on the background.

Detail view:

  1. A very striking piece and I really like the way that you have created the shadow using the same stitching as the actual tree. Lovely work!

  2. Beautiful work of course I like the minimalistic approach, congratulations for thinking “outside the box”.

The choice of complementary colors creates a striking effect. Clean, precise work. The background fabric is magnificent.

  4. It is very interesting how your trees develop, but what strikes me most is your machine stitching. Just perfect!

  5. Love your modern approach to your tree in full bloom, so bright and cheerful! Wonderful fabric choices and amazing machine quilting. Lovely!

  6. I love the way that your improv piecing has made this tree shape, and the shadow shape is a great idea. As always your stitching is beautiful and completes the piece to prefection. Wonderful

  7. A very dramatic contrast to your tree in No.3. The two techniques here have made clear, modern tree shapes but the stitching has made the whole design come to life. Lovely.

  8. You chose a very interesting way to describe the tree. A very interesting tree in many colors. I really like the machie stitching . Perfect.

  9. The use of complementary colors makes for a great effect. The idea of a shadow tree in the background is original and a great idea. The machine quilting as usually impeccable.Great piece.

  10. Fabulous use of color and stitch. The chosen quilting motifs greatly enhance the overall visual appeal of your composition.

  11. The minimalist design, with the shadow of the tree quilted in the same way, and the use of complementary colours combined with the excellent quilting work on the background give a strong visual effect. Bravo!

  12. I love how you “translated” your blossom tree into this minimalist design.
The shadow in the hand dyed fabric is very effective as are the complimentary colours. But last but not least, as always I am in awe of your stitching and particularly how you repeated the stitching of the tree in the shade. Bravo.

I love your modern approach and technique of the tree. The colors make me think of spring and the shadow is very clever and effective. Your work is full of life. Beautiful!

  14. Great idea of this modern approach, beautiful tree! And I love this lacey shadow especially!
