Elsy Menko – Book #3
The Bible – the Creation – day three
On day three of the Creation the grass, herbs and fruit trees were created. For my quilt I chose to depict an apple tree. Although nowhere mentioned in the Bible it is generally assumed that the fruit Eve picked from the tree was an apple. It could have been any fruit tree really. In the left upper corner is a small text in Hebrew meaning ‘… and fruit tree bearing fruit after its kind’ and in the grass another text is hidden ‘ … and the earth brought forth grass, herb yielding seed after its kind’.
Cotton fabrics, tule, organza, fusing, machine and hand stitching, inktense pencils.

What a wonderful depiction of the apple tree. Such attention to detail really makes it come to life and it almost stands out of the quilt. I love the way that your text is almost hidden in the design, which makes it feel like a secret message. Beautiful
